Questions regarding product maintenance

How do I care for a bronze sculpture outdoors?

Bronze is a durable, timeless material that naturally develops a patina over time — part of its unique charm. To keep your sculpture looking its best outdoors, we recommend the following care:

  • Occasional Cleaning: Gently clean with a soft cloth or sponge and warm water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can damage the finish.
  • Waxing (Optional): Apply a thin coat of clear paste wax (such as Renaissance Wax) once or twice a year to protect the surface and enhance the colour. Buff gently with a soft cloth.
  • Positioning: Place your sculpture on a firm base and, where possible, in a location with some protection from extreme weather. Bronze is weather-resistant, but thoughtful placement helps preserve its finish longer.
  • Winter Tips: If your sculpture is hollow or has water-holding features, avoid letting water freeze inside it during winter, as this can cause cracks or stress.

Every sculpture will age gracefully, gaining character from its surroundings. If you’d like help with a maintenance kit or professional cleaning, just get in touch — we’re here to help.

Do your Japanese style bridges require special care or installation?

Our Japanese garden bridges are bespoke, handcrafted features designed to be both functional and artistic. Built from premium hardwoods and finished to endure outdoor conditions, each bridge is made to order with care and attention to detail.

Installation:

Most of our bridges arrive in pre-assembled sections and are simple to install with basic guidance. Depending on your landscape, light groundwork or support may be needed — we’re happy to advise.

Maintenance:

To preserve the bridge’s beauty and longevity:

  • Clean occasionally with a soft brush or damp cloth
  • Re-seal or treat the wood annually if exposed to heavy rain or full sun
  • Ensure airflow beneath the bridge to prevent moisture build-up

Each bridge is made to age gracefully, blending into its natural surroundings while retaining its unique charm. Whether placed over a pond, dry riverbed, or as a focal point in a Zen-inspired setting — it’s a timeless centrepiece for any luxury garden.

Do hand-glazed pots need special treatment?

Hand-glazed pots are both decorative and durable, but they do benefit from a little extra care to preserve their beauty.

We recommend:

  • Avoiding harsh frost: While many are frost-resistant, extreme cold can cause cracking. During freezing weather, move pots indoors or raise them off the ground with pot feet.
  • Cleaning gently: Use a soft cloth or sponge and mild soapy water — avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the glaze.
  • Using breathable soil: If planting directly inside, ensure there’s proper drainage to prevent waterlogging and frost damage.
  • Avoiding prolonged standing water: Always empty saucers in winter or tilt the pot slightly so water can drain away.

Each piece is a work of art — and with just a little attention, it will stay vibrant for years to come.

Are your ceramic pots frost- resistant?

Our hand-painted ceramic pots are high-fired and glazed, offering a strong level of durability, but we always advise bringing them indoors or covering them during harsh frosts to prolong their life.

How should I maintain ceramic pots?

Our ceramic pots are frost-resistant, but we recommend raising them slightly off the ground with pot feet to prevent waterlogging and frost damage.

Do the Japanese bridges and Torii gates need treatment?

Yes — wooden bridges and gates should be treated with a good-quality exterior wood preservative every 12–18 months to maintain their colour and durability.
